Pros: The station boasts nearly 2,000 parking spots and 70 bike racks and lockers combined. Weekend crowds were bigger than I expected, with the parking lot at least half full on a recent Saturday. Ridership: Musically inclined? Just kidding, although there probably is a large measure of those types of riders when there’s a concert or event at Strathmore. Station: Grosvenor-Strathmore Rating (1-10): 6 Kidding! Only eight stations left…Īside from the mini bucket truck, it's rather picturesque. There really wasn’t a reason to stay longer, though, as there’s not much immediately surrounding the station beyond Strathmore’s grounds and some residential complexes. I didn’t have to wait long for the train to arrive when I visited last weekend (but, alas, “ spring break” is ending soon) and spent just a few moments at the station. The station itself is rather nice: sunken down from street level, it’s quieter than most and full of air and light. Strathmore – this part of the name was added in the mid 2000s – is easier to pronounce, but combined it makes for a mouthful. The name is a tongue twister, though, and I’ve heard my share of variations over the years: gross-veen-or, grows-vinner, grahs-venor, and – the one I believe is correct – grohvner (thank, Janel!). Not very exciting, but it gets the job done and at least gives a more accurate depiction of what is nearby than many stations. Apparently this station was originally supposed to be named Parkside (anybody know why?) but instead was named after a nearby…street.

I had, however, never visited the Grosvenor-Strathmore station itself.

I used to drive by the area all the time, have traveled this stretch of the Red Line numerously over the years, and was even at a meeting just south of there recently.

I’ve been to Strathmore Hall exactly once (I know) and it was to tape a fashion show (I know!).
